Learning theatre through observation and in a group setting is proven to enhance achievement. Students who are able to observe other students learning have an opportunity to process information and learn more easily. Groups provide positive peer interaction. A group becomes a comfortable place to be and participants of the class tend to motivate each other. Students in group acting lessons regularly practice and perform in front of one another which reduces the fear of performing in public and is a great transition into The Next Stage Experience. Group acting lessons do not perform outside of the classroom, but do have opportunities to audition for our Fall/Winter Musical as well as our Spring Production. If you are looking for additional performance, opportunities please see our Next Stage Experience or our Music and Dance Communities. We offer group acting lessons as well as improv classes based on interest and instructor availability. Please view our current schedule at www.ypacarts.com.
For more advanced students, private attention is needed to fine tune technique used for auditions as well as finer points of expression and interpretation. This type of fine-tuning is best in a private lesson setting. Students looking to perform on the stage are encouraged strongly to register for a private theatre lesson.
Private Lesson Experience
Individual Attention: Private lessons focus on the individual’s strengths and weaknesses and are often in addition to group lessons. Acting is a multi-sensory, complex art requiring learning by ear, eye, touch, and intellectual understanding of the concepts given. Each student combines these elements differently. Private lessons go at the student’s learning pace, stopping whenever necessary to review concepts, repeat material or explore an area the student seems interested in.
The ensemble experience is the perfect setting for any child wishing to use their love for performance to establish relationships with peers as well as perform for their families and members of their own community! The Next Stage experience is a supportive group setting which develops the triple discipline of singing, dancing and acting. These skills not only benefit the physical health of the student, but enhance the overall general education. YPAC is home to the following Next Stage Performances: Fall/Winter Musical, Spring Musical Production.
