Director of Theater Community / Theater Instructor
Annette Smith (she/her) is so excited to start sharing her love and knowledge of theater and all things dramatic with the YPAC community. She started acting at age 5 and found her passion on stage. She spent every summer at theater camps and performing in summer musicals. When she reached high school she focused on theatre – beginning to teach at the same summer camp she attended growing up. When she started her time at Illinois State University she focused on acting and theatre education, wanting to help future generations find a home either on stage or back stage like she did. She also spent all of her summers during school working at the the Illinois Shakespeare Festival, growing her love of the great Bard! Annette spent her time after school studying theater and improve around the Chicagoland Area and Northwest Indiana. She felt her learning and passion never stopped and she always wanted to find a way to teach a new generation about how much theater can help you grow and develop as a person. Annette moved to the Fox Valley Area from Chicago with her husband and son to be closer to her mom and auntie. Before the Pandemic she started and lead the theater department at the Fox Valley YMCA for 2 and half years. She brings her passion of theatre in all its forms especially Shakespeare and musicals with her to YPAC and looks forward to building a theater department that will be a home to everyone!
